I am a single Mom with a home in great disrepair. I even worry if it is safe. I make 12.81 hourly for 35 hours a week of work. My daughters father has only paid a thousand dollars between 4/8/08 – 8/17/09 in child support. Now my water has been cut off, my food stamps and my phone. I am behind in my electric bill too. Winter is especially hard because the only room in my home with proper heat is my bedroom. I wish there was some agency out there that assists single moms with home repair needs. I would greatly appriciate any feedback that may help. Thank you

Julie — you should seek private assistance. The first thing I would do would be to look through the phonebook for financial assistance programs. Churches, non-profit organizations (especially those that deal with battered women), and private welfare assistance programs (yes, there may be some still around) can be found.
There may be some grant aid available for single mom home repair. However, the grants can change from year to year. The best way is to check the government grant website and look at the single mother grant category. You may find home repair grants. Keep in mind that it’s an involved process for grant money — you can wait a while before seeing money.
